MEET THE TEAM

Together we make a fabulous team bringing years of expertise and love for the sport of swimming.

All Comet instructors are Swimming NZ qualified and experienced. Comet is Gisborne's only Swimming NZ Quality Swim School for which we hold the GOLD Certification, the highest level there is.

  • Glenn Hamblyn

    Acting General Manager/Head Coach

    Glenn is a Silver Accredited Coach and has more than 20 years aquatics experience. Glenn started at Comet in Sep 2020, after moving his family from Auckland. His experience, knowledge and expertise for swimming shines through. His attitude and commitment to his swimmers and Comet is amazing. Glenn is Chairman of Eastland Swim and is on the Board for the Swim Coaches and Teachers Association.

  • Cindy Le Compte

    Finance Administrator

    Cindy started with Comet in Jan 2020. Cindy has a Diploma in Business and Accounting. She is the Clubs Finance and Administration guru. She is passionate about swimming and ensuring our community stays safe around water. Cindy keeps everything rolling behind the scenes. Comet is grateful to have her as part of our Comet team.

  • Rama Robertson

    Senior Swimming Instructor

    Rama has more than 10 years aquatics experience. He has achieved his Pool Water Treatment Certificate and Level 1, 2 & 3 Plus Advanced St Johns First Aid. He is Austswim certified. His real passion is Water Safety and ensuring swimmers know what to do when or if things change in the water. Having a Water Safety expert as part of our team is an excellent addition to our team.

  • Sandra Arnold

    Senior Swimming Instructor

    Sandra has more than 10 years aquatics experience. She has achieved her Assistant Swim Teacher Award, Early Childhood Swim Teacher Award, Aquatics Swim and Water Safety Teacher Level 3. She LOVES teaching learn to swim. She enjoys every aspect of helping our community be safe in the water. Sandra is the “Nanny” of our team and is an integral part of Comet.

  • Justine Robin

    Senior Swimming Instructor

    Justine started with Comet in 2013.. She has achieved her SNZ Swim Teachers Award, AustSwim Certification and has a current 1st Aid Certificate. Her quiet friendly approach is a hit with whānau and tamariki. She is dedicated and thoroughly LOVES her role within the club. 2023 has seen her engage in her Māori heritage and teaching a whole class in Te Reo Māori. Go Justine!

    Senior Swimming Instructor

    Carol started her swimming journey in Auckland in the early 2000’s. She has a knack for connecting with her swimmers and getting the best out of them. Carol has her AustSwim Certification and is learning Te Reo. Her current goal is to complete a whole lesson in Te Reo, she’s nearly there! Carol is a massive asset to the Club, her love and commitment to teaching people to swim is second to none.

  • Katelyn Grimson

    Swimming Instructor/Assist Coach

    Katelyn started teaching in August 2019. Her journey started well before then, learning to swim with us at Elgin and swimming right throughout school and swimming competitively. Katelyn has achieved her SNZ Swim Teachers Award and is currently Treasurer of Eastland Swim. She is studying towards her Bachelor of Business. She teaches at Elgin Pool, and assists Glenn with coaching squads.

  • Libby Dalcom

    Libby joined the Comet team in July 2022. Libby was a competitive swimmer in her youth and after watching her own children learn to swim at Elgin Pool with Comet she approached us in search of her dream job. She is now living the dream! Libby is a Learn to Swim Instructor at Elgin, is the booking Queen for the learn to swim administration and coaches at Kiwa Pools too.

  • Roxy Adams

    Roxy joined our team in 2022. Roxy was a competitive swimmer for North Shore, and coached their junior squads. In 2023 Roxy has taken over Stroke Development, bringing new ideas that are working well. Her expertise in the field is shining bright and swimmers are progressing extremely well. Roxy has a wealth of experience, and working for Comet, she says is the best job she has ever had! This swells our heart, and we are so grateful she is part of our Comet team.

  • Angus Blair

    Angus joined the Coaching team in November 2021. Angus is loving his coaching and his swimmers and their whānau are loving him too. You will find him teaching Stroke Development at Kiwa Pools. Angus is a National Age Group Champ in both swimming and surf lifesaving. Angus has been swimming with Comet since he was 5 years old. He started at Elgin School Pool and now has the enjoyment and warmth of the amazing new facility, Kiwa Pools.

  • Ange Caskey

    Ange joined the Comet team in July 2023. She is passionate about our community and helping them Learn to Swim. She is working through her Austswim Qualification and has loved the new experience of learning the ins and outs of water safety and keeping our people safe, in, on and around the water. Her bubbly personality is a massive addition to or team. She speaks Te Reo, and she integrates this into her lessons, this helps her connect with tamariki extremely well.

  • Sierra Blumfield

    Sierra started swimming when she was 3 at Elgin pool and is now swimming at Kiwa Pools. Swimming is a passion of Sierra’s and through it has developed as a person, especially through the opportunities passed her way including the role of being Swimming Instructor at Elgin. Sierra been teaching at Elgin since July 2022. Sierra feels very fortunate to be able to pass on her knowledge to the children she teaches. Sierra loves sharing her passion of swimming with her students and looks forward to developing aquatic pathways for them.

  • Hannah Morgan

    Hannah joined the Comet team in 2023. Hannah was a competitive swimmer for Murihiku in Southland, before swimming the Foveaux Strait in 2019. Hannah has coached in Invercargill and Dunedin over the years. She has spent time teaching learn to swim across all ages and has helped develop learn to swim programmes for women.

    We are thrilled to have Hannah as part of our team. Her knowledge and expertise is second to none. Her passion and love for the sport shines through in her teaching. It is evident with how the swimmers react to her and her teaching.
